Uma: A Complex and Compelling Character in the Descendants Franchise
From Villain to Anti-Heroine
Uma, the daughter of Ursula, is a multifaceted character in the Descendants franchise. Initially introduced as the main antagonist in Descendants 2, she gradually transforms into a more sympathetic and complex figure by Descendants 3.
Antagonist's Motivation
In Descendants 2, Uma's primary motivation is her resentment towards Mal and the other 'VKs' (Villain Kids) who have been invited to Auradon Prep. She feels that the VKs have stolen her birthright and seeks revenge by capturing Ben, the prince of Auradon, and using him as a bargaining chip.
Transition to Anti-Hero
However, in Descendants 3, Uma's character undergoes a significant transformation. After learning the truth about her father's death and the manipulation she has faced, she switches sides and teams up with the VKs to defeat the true villain, Hades.
Supportive Protagonist
