Sinner Powers Through Injury To Reach Last 16 In Madrid
Battled Through Hip Injury
Jannik Sinner showed incredible resilience to battle through an existing hip injury and a modest serving performance to fight his way into the fourth round of the Mutua Madrid Open on Monday.
Overcame Adversity
The Italian youngster overcame a hip injury to beat Pavel Kotov 6-2 7-5, reaching the fourth round of the Madrid Mutua and continuing his impressive start to the clay-court season.
Despite facing a break point in the first game of the match, Sinner broke Kotov's serve twice to take the opening set 6-2.
The second set was much closer, with both players holding serve until 5-5. Sinner then saved a set point before breaking Kotov's serve and serving out the match.
Sinner's victory sets up a potential fourth-round clash with fellow rising star Carlos Alcaraz, who has sent Sinner a threat ahead of their potential meeting.
