Howie Schwab, Star of ESPN's Stump the Schwab, Dies at 63

Longtime ESPN Producer and Statistician Was a Trivia Master

Schwab Hosted the Popular Game Show from 2004 to 2008

Howie Schwab, a longtime producer and statistician for ESPN, died Saturday at the age of 63, the network announced. Schwab was best known as the host of the popular trivia game show Stump the Schwab, which aired on ESPN from 2004 to 2008.

Schwab joined ESPN in 1989 and worked on a variety of shows, including SportsCenter, NFL Live, and Baseball Tonight. He was also a regular contributor to ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com.

Stump the Schwab was a trivia game show in which contestants competed against Schwab, who was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of sports. The show was a hit with viewers and helped make Schwab a household name.

Schwab left ESPN in 2013 and continued to work as a freelance writer and producer. He also taught at the University of New Haven.

Schwab is survived by his wife, Ann, and two sons.
